After a lovely dinner at Duo Restaurant Friday night, my date and I decided to grab dessert on Broadway. Without realizing it, I noticed that The Chocolate Mill was open for it’s first day of business. As I peaked through the window, I could see the beautiful displays of cakes and truffles but a closer look left me breathless (well, almost). The designs and intricate detail that each dessert had was amazing. It’s not often that you come across a business that puts so much time and effort into creating edible art on such a level as The Chocolate Mill does, and it was really refreshing to see it.
Here’s a look at the cases:
While I haven’t been to the Glens Falls location, I could tell just by looking through the glass that there’s a reason why there was so much hype around it opening in Saratoga Springs. I chose to sample the Vanilla Bean Cheesecake and the German Chocolate Cake, both priced at $5.95.
Aside from the exquisite beauty, it’s time I get down to business. First bite I took was from the cheesecake. At first taste, the flavor is a little off but as you let the velvety cake melt into your taste buds, the rich flavor of the cheesecake really comes to fruition. As far as the chocolate cake, the texture wasn’t as moist and rich as I was hoping, but the coconut filling really made up for what the cake was lacking.
I didn’t have the stomach width to get any truffles or chocolate covered pretzels, but I definitely foresee consuming them in the near future. I look forward to hearing what others have to say as they try The Chocolate Mill, but for me, I give them a thumbs up!
