Oh baby, when I get the chance to do a pizza review, you better believe I take it seriously. I’ve been hearing whispers about the new(ish) Berkshire Bakery located right behind Kilwin’s on Broadway.
When I first learned they were joining the Saratoga community, I did some digging and read all up on their pizza which you can take and bake or just eat there.
Take and bake is right up my alley. I love pizza in all forms, and if you’ve got a brick oven, then by all means I want it cooked right there. But the rest of the time if I’m getting delivery or take-out, I usually end up reheating in my own oven anyway. So getting to bake myself is just a bonus.
After the first time I posted about this spot, someone had recommended the Hawaiian BBQ Pizza, so I ordered one of those, plus the popular Classic Pizza, which is topped with pepperoni, mushrooms, and red onions.
First, the BBQ –
Um, holy YES. Fresh mozzarella and smoked gouda, red onion, some sweet pineapple chunks, and tangy bbq sauce. I ordered mine with chicken, which I’d recommend everyone does too. I’m actually not really a big bbq pizza fan, but this totally changed my outlook on pineapple on a pizza.
And for the classic? This is literally my exact order when I go out for pizza. Pepperoni and mushroom, plus the red onions didn’t hurt. The fresh mozzarella REALLY makes such a massive difference with a pizza.
Now, the crust. This is definitely not your typical crust. It’s made with sourdough, and it’s thin and crispy. The texture isn’t what you’re used to, but it’s light and deLIGHTful.
Aside from pizza, they also have salads and panini’s, which all look fabulous.
If you’re going to order, they recommend calling ahead. They prep the pizza to order, so you’re looking at a bit of a wait if you decide to order in person.
Either way, you need to get there and you need to eat this pizza.
