There are plenty of perfect pairs in this world:
Peanut butter & Jelly.
Cookies & Milk.
Bacon & Eggs.
Grilled Cheese & Tomato soup.
The list goes on and on. But tacos and doughnuts? That’s a new one.
Well, at least until I visited Taquero at 68 Putnam Street in Saratoga Springs. With the sign “Tacos and Donuts” right on the door, you can see fresh doughnuts being prepared in the window and tacos being made right behind that.
And when I say fresh, I mean fresh to order.
The set up in there is simple – you order at the counter, you grab a spot at the bar that lines the wall (or you stand and wait), and within five minutes you have your order in your hand (or in your mouth.)
As far as tacos go, these are no joke. While priced at $4.15 and up per taco, they offer everything from cauliflower and carnitas to barbacoa, Korean pork and mahi-mahi. You also have the option to go from taco to bowl or salad, making it more of a substantial meal with add-ins like rice or romaine.
These tacos were bursting with flavor, from the simplicity of fresh cilantro and a squeeze of lime juice to the juicy chicken and salty queso fresco.
Doughnut options vary in flavors, but we chose the maple bacon ones, and they did not disappoint.
They were so light and airy, but with the perfect crisp and obv you can’t go wrong with those toppings. Honestly, they reminded me of a cider doughnut, and I definitely want to get the simple cinnamon sugar flavor the next time I’m in there so I can pretend it’s fall again.
Open Tuesday-Sunday, their hours are from 11am-11pm (Tuesday through Thursday), 11am-Late (Friday & Saturday) and 11am-9pm (Sunday.)
Whether you’re looking for a quick lunch, a late-night snack after a few too many drinks or you just want a grab-and-go kind of dinner, this is the spot for you and a much-welcomed addition to the Saratoga food scene!
