Here’s some exciting news! The team behind Karavalli, my favorite and beloved Indian restaurant, will be opening a new restaurant today called Spice Malabar at 7 Southside Drive in Clifton Park.

If you’ve never tried Karavalli’s food, you’re truly missing out on some of the greatest food the Capital Region has to offer. While Karavalli has two locations in Saratoga and Latham, Spice Malabar in Clifton Park will feature the flavors of North and South Indian cuisine.

Spice Malabar, new restaurant from team behind Karavalli of Latham, set to open in Clifton Park on March 16

CLIFTON PARK, N.Y. — The team behind Karavalli of Latham, the popular Indian restaurant, will open a new establishment tomorrow — Tuesday, March 16 — at 7 Southside Drive, Clifton Park, at the popular shopping destination, The Shops at Village Plaza.

Spice Malabar beautifully honors the flavors of North and South Indian cuisine. North Indian cuisine includes dishes and breads cooked in the tandoor, a cylindrical clay oven. Traditionally, meats and vegetables slowly cook in tomato, onion, and tree nut-based sauces, which are expertly seasoned to each dish. Using the purist of spices and freshest of ingredients elevates the aroma, taste, and texture of the food. South Indian Cuisine brings together the cuisines of Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Mangalore and Goa with an exquisite range of healthy dishes that are created with flair and style. Seafood is at the heart of Spice Malabar’s menu with equally distinct poultry, game and vegetarian selections.

Visitors to Spice Malabar can experience an impressive lunch buffet which includes tandoor, vegan, vegetarian, and non-vegetarian specialties.  Convenient takeout lunch box specials and other à la carte menu options are also offered mid-day. The expansive dinner menu consists of appetizers, tandoori specialties, vegetarian, chicken, game, and seafood preparations.  A Tasting Menu, comprised of authentic Indian delicacies paired with vegetable Biriyani, Garlic Naan and Tandoori Broccoli, is a recommended way to explore the special flavors of the kitchen. Classic signatures such as Mango Curry, Chettinadu and Pepper Fry dishes are also available in addition to an authentic homemade dessert menu.

At the helm of Spice Malabar’s kitchen is veteran Chef Vince George. He began his career when he graduated in culinary management in Chennai, India and started as a line cook in some of the most prestigious Indian kitchens.  He then moved to New Jersey where he joined the Sankalp Group of Restaurants, a Gujarat-based company, before moving on to Karavalli of Latham where he has been an executive chef for 10 years and a key player in the development of other projects affiliated with Karavalli of Latham.

“We’ve been overwhelmed by the positive response Karavalli has received over the years,” said George, who is also the owner of Spice Malabar. “To share our food with a new audience and bring the cuisine of Northern and Southern India to Clifton Park is very exciting for our team. As members of the community ourselves, we are looking forward to welcoming our neighbors to our new space!”

Soon, Spice Malabar will feature a full bar offering hand-crafted cocktails as well as tastefully selected wine and beer from regional purveyors and around the world to complement the spices and aromas of the restaurant’s cuisine. The ambiance is authentic as the food, giving guests a feel for Indian culture.  The custom décor and hand-crafted interior spaces are flooded with natural light by day, and by night the restaurant’s profusion of ambient glow will provide much intimacy to the dining experience.

Spice Malabar will be open for lunch Tuesday through Friday noon to 2:30 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday noon to 3:00 p.m. Dinner hours will be Tuesday through Saturday 5:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., and Sunday 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. For more information visit www.spicemalabar.com.
